... on oils in general
Fatty oils are generally pressed from the kernels, seeds or nuts of plants, such as hemp oil, almond oil or rosehip seed oil.
They all have a strong nourishing effect on the skin and hair and, if cold-pressed and of organic quality, are a treasure trove of minerals and vitamins with a wide range of effects. They can be applied undiluted to the skin and often serve as a "carrier" for the valuable fragrance essences of essential oils.
Essential oils, on the other hand, are highly concentrated substances that exert their effect both aromatherapeutically via the nose and, as has now been scientifically proven, via the skin.
They are contained in the plant's leaves, flowers, twigs and bark and are distilled in various ways. Essential oils are not fats in the true sense of the word, but are highly volatile and evaporate quickly.
They give the fatty oils a wonderful fragrance that unfolds its numerous effects via the olfactory sense - be it relaxing, stimulating, concentration-enhancing, aphrodisiac, cell-regenerating, anti-inflammatory, circulation-enhancing and much more.
Fatty oils have a shelf life of 1 to 3 years. The time span is much longer for essential oils - starting with the sensitive citrus fruits (mandarin, orange or yuzu oil), which should be used up within around six months, through to certain woods such as sandalwood and oud, which, if stored correctly, become increasingly valuable over the years, like a good wine.
On the one hand, the skin of the body and face is exposed to different environmental influences and therefore has different needs. On the other hand, we don't want our face to be shiny after our morning skincare routine.
In principle, all oils can be used for the whole body. However, we differentiate between dry oils (marula oil, raspberry seed oil, rosehip seed or wild rose oil), which are absorbed very quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy film, and rich, fatty oils that are absorbed more slowly (such as macadamia nut or avovado oil), which can do incredible things for dry, cracked skin.
This is probably the question we are asked most often, because it is actually a contradiction in terms. Dry oil is an invention of the cosmetics industry to describe oils that have a light texture, are non-comedogenic (i.e. do not clog pores), are quickly absorbed and do not leave a greasy film, but still have a wide range of effects. They are mainly used as facial oils. In contrast, an oil that has a different fatty acid spectrum and is not absorbed so quickly is of course much better suited as a massage oil. So once again the realisation: not all oils are the same. We use marula oil, rosehip seed oil and wild rose oil for our facial oils. Drop by drop, they can be wonderfully supplemented with passion fruit seed oil, raspberry seed oil and hemp oil for evening care, for example.
... for the application of oils
Facial oil - like body oil - is best applied to moisturised skin. Moisture makes the skin receptive to the active ingredients. Our rose water and neroli water hydrolates, which do not contain alcohol, are best suited for this. Spray 1 to 3 strokes onto your face and/or décolleté and then gently massage the facial oil into your skin. This hydrolate-oil emulsion is suitable for all skin types. When used regularly, it has a sebum-regulating effect, is quickly absorbed and provides your skin with moisture and many important antioxidants.
If you have any questions about what is best for your individual skin type, please get in touch using the contact form.
A mixture of rose or neroli water without alcohol and almond oil is best for removing make-up. Unlike with skincare, where the oil should be absorbed as quickly as possible, when removing make-up you want the oil to dissolve the make-up. To do this, take some almond oil in the palm of your hand, spray 2 drops of rose or neroli water on top and rub it between your hands. A wonderful cleanser for your face - which even cares for the sensitive skin around your eyes.
Body oil is like cooking oil. A drop of pure oil is naturally visible on clothing. However, once it has been absorbed into the skin, it will not stain, just like your natural skin oils. Coloured silk fabrics are the most sensitive. Here it is important that your body oil is really absorbed.
It depends on the oil and how comedogenic or non-comedogenic the oil is that you use. Our oil blends are designed to restore the skin's natural balance. This is why only the base oil III with macadamia nut and avocado oil, which nourishes and pampers skin prone to dryness, is absorbed a little more slowly. Jojoba oil base I and almond raspberry seed hemp oil base II are absorbed well and relatively quickly.
It is particularly helpful when the skin is still a little damp. We like to make it a ritual to brush and oil our skin after a shower and then give it time to absorb the oil. In the meantime, simply make your bed naked, brush your teeth or whatever else you can think of. :-)
... about our products in general
The three women behind Öl-Manufaktur oelfaktorisch GmbH are Sonja Staffler, Laura Joppien and Julia Jacobs. Founder Sonja Staffler is a state-certified masseuse and aromatherapy expert. Thanks to her many years of experience in her own massage practice, Sonja Staffler knows the effects of essential oils. To meet her own quality standards, she decided to develop her own body oils in 2018.
Our range consists of purely organic oils whose spectrum of effectiveness goes far beyond the usual range. We are able to achieve this because we do not use any stretching care oils or inferior ingredients. This allows the vitamins, minerals and polyunsaturated fatty acids contained in the oils to unfold their maximum power through the skin.
For us, the quality of our raw materials is therefore absolutely crucial: the ingredients should be so natural and pure that they are basically of food quality.
You will therefore not find any sunflower oil in our blends, for example.
100 per cent yes. But because anyone can claim that about their products, we have also had ourselves certified by PETA. We are also committed to not carrying out or commissioning any animal testing. This applies both to the end product and to the individual ingredients that we use and source.
oelfaktorisch on the PETA cruelty-free list
We bottle our precious organic oils exclusively in violet or amber glass bottles, which allows us to extend their shelf life and avoid the use of preservatives.
Natural and untreated fats and essential oils are sensitive to light. As it is unrealistic to store the bottles in the dark in everyday life, we have decided - after "rummaging" through countless studies - in favour of the luxury class and fill our active ingredient oils, which in combination with fatty and essential oils are among our finest products, in violet glass bottles.
For pure oils without essential additives, such as hemp, almond, raspberry, broccoli or passion fruit oil, we use amber glass bottles, whose light-protecting effect is sufficient to preserve the quality of the pure oils.
We would like to offer you the opportunity to buy completely plastic-free from us, so the aluminium lid is the best closure. Our idea is to choose the pipette the first time and then use the aluminium lid and the pipette again.
